Farm Life, Recipes & Updates From the Pasture
Life on the farm is more than just raising animals or growing food—it’s a rhythm, a tradition, and a way of living rooted in hard work, care, and respect for the land. At Wilson Family Farms in Blairstown, New Jersey, every season brings something new, and we’re proud to share a glimpse into what goes into producing your pasture-raised meats and farm-fresh eggs.
Whether you’re here to learn about our daily lives, discover a seasonal recipe, or catch the latest farm update, you’re in the right place.
A Day in the Life on the Farm
Long before the sun rises, the day begins. Our cows and pigs aren’t just livestock—they’re at the heart of everything we do. Each animal is cared for daily, with attention to their well-being, environment, and nutrition. We raise our steers on pasture and supplement with a mineral- and grain-balanced diet to ensure healthy development and exceptional flavor.
Seasonal shifts dictate the rhythm of our days. In spring, the fields come alive, and we begin hay production to support the animals through colder months. By summer, the pastures are in full swing, and we’re also preparing for open farm days—a special opportunity for families to connect with where their food comes from. Fall is harvest time. Winter brings slower days but never a true pause. Our animals still need care, and the land needs preparation for the next cycle.
We take pride in doing things the right way, not the fast way. That’s what farm life means to us—purposeful, practical, and personal.
Why Pasture Raised Matters
In a time when food labels can be hard to trust, we keep it simple. At Wilson Family Farms, our beef and pork come from animals raised outdoors with space to roam and natural diets. Pasture-raised isn’t just a label—it’s a method that supports animal welfare, regenerates soil, and delivers better-tasting, more nutrient-dense food.
Our customers tell us they can taste the difference, and we believe that’s because our methods focus on quality over quantity. No hormones. No shortcuts. Just real, honest farming.
Farm Kitchen: Seasonal Recipe – Herb & Garlic Beef Roast
Cooking with pasture-raised beef brings out bold, rich flavors that don’t need much fuss. Here’s a go-to family recipe using one of our most popular cuts: the top round roast.
Ingredients:
- 1 (3–4 lb) top round beef roast (Wilson Family Farms)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
- 1 cup beef broth
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- In a bowl, mix garlic, herbs, salt, pepper, and olive oil into a paste.
- Rub the mixture over the entire surface of the roast.
- Place the roast in a roasting pan and add broth to the bottom.
- Roast uncovered for 1.5–2 hours (or until internal temperature reaches 135°F for medium-rare).
- Remove from oven, tent with foil, and let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
Tip: Serve with roasted root vegetables or a fresh garden salad for a wholesome, farm-style meal.
